The reuse of waste contributes to the reduction of the landfills that have been contaminating the water sources of rivers and soils. In this sense, this research has as main objective the use of eggshell residue in the ceramic mass for the manufacture of ceramic tiles. The raw materials, from the Metropolitan Region of Salvador, were characterized by X-ray fluorescence (XRF), X-ray diffraction (XRD) and spectrometry (EDS). The powdered residue in weight percentages of 2.5%, 5.0%, 7.5% and 10% was added to the formulations. The specimens with dimensions 60x20x5mm were prepared according to the technical standards by uni-axial pressing of 55Mpa and sintered at 1100°C and 1200°C Temperatures. After sintering, the specimens were chemically analyzed by X-ray fluorescence (XRF), X-ray diffraction and optical microscopy (SEM) and mechanical properties were evaluated: bending strength, water absorption and linear shrinkage. It was concluded that the addition of the eggshell residue to the ceramic mass, for the production of ceramic coating, was satisfactory according to the specifications of the technical standards, the material was characterized as semi-porous and porous, being able to be used In the manufacture of ceramic coating.
