Lightweight concrete has shown great potential for use in the most diverse areas of civil construction arising in response to the need to reduce the specific mass of the concrete by the use of light aggregates or additions reducing the proper weight of the concrete elements and, consequently, of the loads foundations, often without significant reduction of resistance. The diatomite is a promising material for the manufacture of ceramic products due to its low cost and natural porosity, it has a great variety of applications due to its physical and chemical properties, it presents high porosity, which results in low specific mass of this material, also presents insulating properties in their natural state. In this work concrete specimens were drawn in the 1: 2: 3 trace with diatomite, in the proportions of 5, 10, 15 and 20%. Then, in order to verify the behavior of the concrete with the use of diatomite, tests of resistance to compression, specific mass and water absorption were made. It can be verified that the use of diatomite has altered the properties of the concrete.
