Synthesis of niobium nitride at low temperature

In this work, the effect of nitrogen concentration and total gas flow was found to be useful for controlling complete decomposition of the niobium oxalate complex. The reactions were carried out by the gas-solid reaction method where certain parameters were varied to evaluate the best conditions for obtaining a high purity material. The effect of temperature and reaction time were investigated by X-ray diffraction (XRD) with rietiveld refinement and scanning electron microscopy (SEM). The reaction time was shown to be essential in NbN formation.
