Effect of Mg doping on structural and electrical properties of BaZr0.1Ti0.9O3 ceramics

We show that the use of magnesium as A-site dopant produces the formation of the perovskite phase and the densification of the ceramics at lower temperature. Combining XRD, SEM and electrical measurements, we determined that the solubility limit of Mg in BaZr0.1Ti0.9O3 is ~3%. Dielectrical measurements showed a reduction of the Curie temperature Tc with doping for concentrations lower than 3%, while Tc remains unchanged at higher concentrations. We showed that the remnant polarization decreases with dopant concentration, while a small amount of Mg (1%) improves the d33 piezoelectric coeficient
