Ceramic Covering of SiO2 by Using a Long Arc Thermal Plasma Torch

This system applied a plasma heat flow at 5500 ºC to alumina powder. It was performed the covering of alumina on metallic substrate of stainless ANSI 304, ranging the parameters of spraying process such as plasma temperature, distance from substrate, spraying exposure time, powder flow rate, gas carrying flow rate and applying multilayers, in order to obtain the complete fusion of the powder grains, large thickness, low porosity and adherence to substrate. The particles sprayed archive at 2500 ºC and 500 m/s. The coatings obtained were between 60 to 140 µm. The samples were analyzed by profilometry, X-ray diffraction and SEM/EDS.
